Arrival in Kilimanjaro – Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our professional mountain team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town, located at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This day is reserved for relaxation and preparation before your climb begins. In the evening, you will meet your mountain guide for a detailed briefing about the 6 Days Machame Route, including safety procedures, altitude awareness, equipment check, and summit preparation. Overnight at the hotel in Moshi.
Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After breakfast, you will drive to Machame Gate where registration formalities are completed before starting your Kilimanjaro adventure. The trek begins through the lush rainforest zone, filled with giant trees, tropical vegetation, birds, and colobus monkeys. The trail gradually ascends along scenic forest paths while the fresh mountain air and peaceful surroundings create an exciting start to the climb. By late afternoon, you arrive at Machame Camp where your mountain crew prepares dinner and camping arrangements.
Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Today the trail leaves the rainforest and enters the beautiful moorland zone. The landscape changes dramatically as giant heathers, volcanic rocks, and wide mountain views begin to dominate the scenery. As you continue ascending, you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. The hike is steady and allows your body to continue adjusting naturally to the increasing altitude. Upon arrival at Shira Camp, you can relax and enjoy the breathtaking sunset over the mountain.
Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
This is one of the most important acclimatization days on the 6 Days Machame Route. The trail gradually climbs toward Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp following the important acclimatization principle of “climb high, sleep low.” This helps your body adapt better to the altitude before summit night. The scenery today is dramatic and unforgettable, featuring alpine desert landscapes, giant senecio plants, volcanic formations, and stunning mountain views. Barranco Camp is beautifully located beneath the famous Barranco Wall, offering one of the most scenic camping experiences on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
After breakfast, you begin climbing the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting sections of the Machame Route. Although it appears steep, it is non-technical and safely guided by experienced mountain guides. After reaching the top, the trail continues through ridges and valleys with incredible views of glaciers and the southern slopes of Kilimanjaro. You then continue ascending toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. Upon arrival, you will rest, hydrate, and prepare your summit gear while receiving a detailed briefing from your guide about the midnight ascent.
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp
Around midnight, you begin the final ascent toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the entire 6 Days Machame Route. The climb is slow and steady as you trek under the stars through cold alpine conditions. As sunrise approaches, you reach Stella Point before continuing along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak. Standing at the Roof of Africa is an unforgettable achievement filled with emotion, breathtaking glacier views, and a true sense of accomplishment. After celebrating at the summit, you descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Millennium Camp for overnight.
Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast, you continue descending through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The lower elevation brings warmer temperatures and richer oxygen levels, making the final descent comfortable and enjoyable. At the gate, you will receive your official summit certificate as recognition of your successful Kilimanjaro climb. After completing park formalities, you will be transferred back to Moshi for a hot shower, relaxation, and celebration. We also welcome you to spare an hour of your day to plant a tree as part of our environmental conservation efforts in the Kilimanjaro region, helping to preserve the beauty of the mountain for future generations.
Departure or Safari Extension
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey home. For travelers wishing to continue exploring Tanzania, this is also the perfect opportunity to extend your adventure with a safari to Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire National Park, or Lake Manyara National Park. Combining the 6 Days Machame Route with a Tanzania safari creates one of the most complete and unforgettable African travel experiences, filled with breathtaking landscapes, incredible wildlife, and lifelong memories.

Your safety is carefully monitored throughout the climb by experienced mountain guides. Daily health checks, oxygen monitoring, emergency oxygen, and altitude sickness observation are part of the safety procedures to ensure a safe and comfortable trekking experience.
Acclimatization
The Machame Route is known for its excellent acclimatization profile because the climb follows the “climb high, sleep low” principle. Walking slowly, drinking enough water, eating well, and following your guide’s pace greatly improve your body’s ability to adapt to high altitude.
